As a result of a mini-residency at the Vanha Paukku Cultural Centre in Finland, Bead Friends Forever created a site-specific installation in the children’s section of the Public Library of Lapua.
Installed on a bright yellow metallic wall enclosing the children’s reading area, the work combines colourful hand-cut vinyl shapes with bead creations, in order to create little worlds and characters inspired by local Finnish children’s books, and the surrounding area.
We created an interactive element to the installation by attaching magnets to the beads, which kids could arrange to organise the fruits in the market, or the change the expressions on the giant, blobby faces floating beside the mountains.

Cheeky Sunshine Smile is an iteration of previous installations which uses a range of beads in various shades of pink (Lina’s favourite colour) and yellow (Jo’s favourite colour) to create a giant 1 metre smiley face. It’s a sincere tribute to the simple and complex nature of Best Friendship.

PEAKS - Fringe World Festival
Blank Slate Gallery, Paper Mountain Northbridge, Western Australia
This vibrant and detailed installation filled Paper Mountain’s gallery wall with small magical objects made from iron-together beads: smiling flowers, small babies, fruits, houses, cakes with candles, cupcakes, lollies, rainbows, pizzas, happy clouds and sad clouds. All of these colourful and wacky objects were lovingly made with the help of our closest buds.
A celebration of friendship and bright colours, the opening event invited attendees to create their own bead creations, sort hundreds of coloured beads into containers, and have a little peak into Jo & Lina’s friendship memory box.
